Caye Caulker

On Caye Caulker, the pace is as slow as the waves.

The island’s motto is GO SLOW, as the residents and visitors are undeniably laid back. Caye Caulker has only a few trucks for deliveries, and the main modes of transportation are feet, old fashioned one-speed bikes and golf carts. Caye Caulker is still a peaceful fishing village dominated by clapboard houses but progress has found our little haven and larger hotels and condos are starting to spring up. The northern and southern ends of the Caye are sparsely populated so they're natural sanctuaries for the 150 species of birds that inhabit the island. Take a walk north along the beach to the "Split", a watery passage that divides Caye Caulker, to spend a day relaxing in the sunshine and sipping on a tropical beverage.

Many Restaurants and Bars are at ones disposal, most only footsteps away. In Caye Caulker you have a choice of indoor or outdoor, some with a lovely view of the barrier reef itself. If you are staying at a Hotel like Blue Wave Guest House that has an outdoor kitchen for Guests, then you may opt to cook your own meal, if that is the case. A wide variety of grocery stores are available on the island including a few major supermarkets and a several fruit and vegetable stands. Need Cash? An international Bank with a 24 Hour ATM is also within reach.

Caye Caulker has a population of about 1,500-2,000 and is still growing. As with most of Belize, Caye Caulker has a diversity of cultures, made up primarily of a combination of Creole, Garifuna and Mestizo, and even Chinese. Despite its growth over the years, Caye Caulker remains a small village with a distinct cultural flavor. The residents focus primarily on the preservation of the natural environment and are careful not to encourage large-scale development that will cause negative environmental impact.

At Caye Caulker, you can walk the island where pirates once roamed because of its availability of freshwater. The treasure that they never discovered is here. The beauty, peace and romance remains...so kick off your shoes and relax in a beach chair or hammock. We look forward to welcoming you Here at Blue Wave Guest House.
